Frequently Asked Questions
What steps are involved in getting a backup water system installed?
We begin with a free site assessment to evaluate your property and water requirements. Following the assessment, we provide a detailed quotation outlining the recommended system and costs.
Once you approve the quotation, we require a 50% deposit to secure your installation date. We then prepare the installation site, including constructing a solid base for the tank stand if needed. Our team handles all aspects of the installation from start to finish.
How does the backup water system integrate with municipal supply?
We offer two integration configurations based on your preferences and requirements:
• Full integration: We route all household water through the backup system, ensuring your entire property draws from the tank during outages.
• Secondary supply: We position the system outside the direct municipal flow, allowing you to switch between municipal and backup water as needed.
We'll recommend the most suitable configuration during your site assessment.
How long can water stand in the tank?
Water remains safe and viable for extended periods in our tanks. We use tanks with specialised internal linings that block light penetration, preventing algae growth and maintaining water quality. The sealed environment keeps the water protected from external contamination.
For residential applications where water may sit unused for longer periods, we typically install a filtration system equipped with UV sterilisation technology that actively eliminates bacteria, ensuring your stored water stays fresh and safe for consumption.
How do I know which water tank size is right for my needs?
We calculate tank sizing based on 150 litres per person per day, which covers drinking, cooking, bathing, and essential household activities. The total capacity you need depends on how many days of water security you want during outages.
For example, a household of four people seeking three days of backup would require at least 1,800 litres. Our residential tanks start at 950 litres and scale up incrementally. For commercial applications, we offer individual tanks up to 20,000 litres.
During your site assessment, we'll analyse your household size, water usage patterns, and outage frequency in your area to recommend the optimal tank size.
Can a solar electrical system power the backup system pump?
Yes, our pumps are fully compatible with residential solar systems and inverters. We specify pumps that operate within the capacity limits of typical home solar inverters, ensuring they draw power without overloading your system during load-shedding periods.
During the quotation process, we'll review your solar inverter specifications to confirm compatibility and ensure seamless integration with your current setup, so your backup water system remains operational even when Eskom does not.
What types of water tanks do you offer?
We stock exclusively premium-grade tank brands that meet strict durability and safety standards. Our range includes:
• Standard cylindrical tanks: Traditional design for properties with adequate space
• Slimline configurations: Same capacity and quality but with a narrower footprint, ideal for tight side passages, courtyards, or urban properties
How long does it take to install a water backup system?
We complete most residential installations within a single working day, from base preparation through to final system testing and commissioning.
Larger installations, such as commercial properties or multi-tank systems, typically require two to three days, depending on complexity and site conditions.
How often should I inspect my water tank?
We recommend inspecting your tank every three months as part of basic maintenance. During these inspections:
• Verify that the lid seal remains fully intact and secure to prevent contamination
• Check for any visible damage to the tank exterior
• Ensure all connections remain tight
Additionally, the filtration system requires servicing annually to replace filter cartridges and UV bulbs, which we'll coordinate with you when due.
Do you offer maintenance services for the water tanks and backup systems?
Yes, we provide ongoing maintenance support for all our installations. The filtration system requires annual servicing, which involves replacing filter cartridges and UV bulbs (if required) to maintain optimal performance.
We send reminders when your system is due for maintenance. You then have two options:
• Self-service: We ship replacement parts directly to you with detailed instructions for self-installation
• Technician service: We dispatch a qualified technician to perform the service at your property
The maintenance process is straightforward and designed to keep your system running efficiently year after year.
